Minnesdjungeln is an interactive online game where the players will compete against a chimpanzee in a short-term memory test. To the players’ surprise, they won’t stand a chance against the chimp!
The purpose of the game is to highlight the cognitive difference between species by giving an example of a task that a chimpanzee is better at than a human.
The aesthetics of the game was designed using Figma and then implemented using HTML, CSS and Javascript. We coded the game using JQuery and used PHP to save the score to an SQL database.
Minnesdjungeln is a project made in the course Interaction Design Project (CIU265) at Chalmers and was created to be a part of Universeum’s digital exhibition "Quantified Self". The target audience are 12-16 year olds but everyone is welcome!
How long can you survive in the memory jungle? Try for yourself!

We decided early on to go with the chimp game. We heard there was a similar game at an exhibition at Naturhistoriska Riksmuséet in Stockholm, so one of our group members went there to find inspiration. We also interviewed Universeum guides to get input on what makes an attraction successful. Our insights and ideas was organized in an affinity diagram.
For the defining phase we sorted through the information we gathered from the previous phase with the MoSCoW method, MDA framework, and Golden Path. We also discovered an energizer activity that suited our project perfectly; “Go Bananas”.
Most of our ideas for the game came out of several Crazy 4's sessions (a version of Crazy 8's). Creativity was on top!
It was time to make sense of all our crazy ideas! We started with a storyboard on a whiteboard, continued with discussions about the solutions, and continued prototyping in Figma. These steps were iterated until we were satisfied with the result.
We evaluated continuously while prototyping. The image above is from a rapid evaluation with users over Zoom. We also carried out a usability test on Zoom with the target audience.
